Indy 500 May 2009 : Memorial Day weekend and the Indy 500 brought us back to Indianapolis to visit Gillians family. Although the 500 is not on my list of things I have to do in this lifetime, it certainly turned out to be everything I had imagined and much more. We drank at ate more than our fair share of 16 oz. Miller Lites and turkey legs at the track and I realized that 80 degrees in Indianapolis is more like 100 degrees in Orange County when you factor in the humidity.

Mr. Poe was nice enough to let me cut the grass in the sit-down lawn mower (a childhood dream of mine) and Mrs. Poe can be seen in the pics below attempting to strangle me with a form of artwork in downtown Indy (now I know where Gil gets it). Dan and Caitlin proved to be fierce competitors in backyard badminton and Gil is still attempting to determine the physics behind her getting the birdie stuck is the mallet each and every hit.

Thanks to the Poe family for inviting me into your home and hopefully we will see you all soon!

Lake Cuyamaca Camping Trip June 2009 : Gil and I had so much fun at Live Oak that we decided to head down to San Diego the following weekend and do some camping at Lake Cuyamaca. We forgot the camera so we had to use a disposable which is why the pics look circa 1976 (i think it looks cool). We fished, hiked, and listened to Iron and Wine by the campfire which was a real treat. Gil prepared a massive berry cobbler on the fire that helped both of us fall asleep when it was time to hit the sack. We definately recommend this place for a weekend getaway to recharge the batteries...

Live Oak Festival June 2009 : Here we are in Santa Barbara at our first Live Oak Festival. Great food and music combined with camping out in the back of the Suburban made for a fun-filled weekend. Between the lawn chair seating, the hippie crowd, and the jugglers it was quite the scene. Gil was accused of cutting in line for a Gyro (you know how she is with food) and I was accused of selling counterfeit drink tickets, but by the end of the weekend we had finally been initiated into the "Oakies" crew. I'm sure we will be welcomed back in 2010 especially after we so gracefully woke everyone up with the car alarm at 6:00 AM as I scurried to find the keys under piles of camping gear and clothes and Gil hid out under the sleeping bags. Come join in next year!
